Voices

I'm not trying to sound like a nut, but I wanna know if it's kinda common for people to hear voices in their head. I've talked to one friend who does... And that was kinda cool to know someone else gets similar deals. I'm talking about when things are kinda quiet, maybe like when you're trying to fall asleep (that is if there isn't music on...) and distinct voices say distinct phrases in your head. I never know who owns the voices. And the phrases are always really random and weird, so I don't know where they come from. Once I tried letting my brain do its drifty hearing voices thing and 'waking up' to write them down each time and ended up with a page of stuff that I couldn't explain. I've thought before that it could be a cool way of getting song lyrics without having to think about them.

I find I do alot of talking to myself. Like full on discussions about topics of the day. Or thinking of bizzare quotes from movies I havent seen in 10 years. It's normally when my mind is whirring and I should be sleeping. Certain things I do during the day before have a significant effect on when it happens I think.
As for the song lyrics, good idea. Maybe it will be like the musical version of 'impressionist' art.
Does it happen more under times of stress? It could just be the way your brain deals with times of stress. But I'm no doctor, just a friend who cares.

I dont know about having specific voices but occasionally I get words or phrases syuck in my head and often (when I am dreaming- not awake) I have toughtmyself stuff in my sleep. For example I had been struggling with learning a fire twirling move for weeks, then randomly I woke up knowing exactly how to do it- the same with braiding my own hair. Sometimes I have completely ransom thoughts though and usually have an answer or try to figure it out in my head by "talking" to myself in my mind. I am a list maker though so usually if my head is awake but my eyes are sleepy, I make lists of things.

Whoa! Teaching yourself stuff in your sleep. That is cool. Sometimes I get revelations in the half asleep phase (off topic - 'Half Asleep' is a very cool ol'skoo B'Fo song that everyone should hear) like how to do a maths problem or something uber exciting like that. But I've never woken up suddenly knowing something I didn't know the day before. Nifty soundin'.

There you go- I checked out that site you mentioned- I am amongst some of the most brilliant people in history- okay- so I have only learned to braid my hair and stuff-not to write brilliant novels or music- but hey (ha, ha, ha) I just thought I was strange- alright- I am strange but thats alright.

I once invented perpetual motion in my sleep. Unfortunately I can't remember how to do it. It involved rocking tubes filled with liquid.

I used to conduct science experiments in my head. I made up strange chemicals that didnt exist by adding bits i did know together. So I would say stuff like "now i need to add 15mm of dimethaltetrabenzenoate" stuff like that. Totally wierd.
I dont do it mucgh anymore though.

I had a good one last night. In the land of half-asleep, I reaslised a bunch of things i would have to consider when I do some lab work on Thursday. All this stuff about which bot co-ordinate frames I have to use for the experiment, and why I hafta. Strange how that stuff shows up when you're not really thinking about it.

Heh, Mel, that reminds me of when I played hexic so much that I started seeing spinning hexagons whenever I shut my eyes :p You should ask Sal about Bejeweled! :)

Hey, it's not MY fault my mum has a shower curtain that allows me to play Bejeweled everytime I have a shower!

That said, I have seen those jewels an awful lot while not playing the game. I refer people here.

If I do too much modelling in a day I start making shapes of slab panels out of any flat surface I see. Over door heads and walls and screens. It's disturbing.
One day I played 8 games of chess in one day and that night I dreamt that I was a Knight and could only move in L-shapes and the squares lit up in front of me like one of those retro dance floors.

In a dream last night, I was looking at the comments in my thesis report (which I haven't actually received back yet), and the marker had corrected HEAPS of the kanji through my report! I think most of his comments were written in Japanese too. Quite bizzare. In one part he was actually happy with one thing I'd written (most of the comments were negative all the way through it), and he'd written よくできました (which is like a thumbs up) except that he'd used wrong kanji in there somewhere, and I was thining "Pfft. What would *you* know?!". I'm getting my 2 degrees totally mixed up in dreamland. Stupid subconscious thesis-related anxiety.

I had a really weird dream last night- I was in a lift with a heap of other people- but it didnt have a back- so it was open on one side and had a gap between it and the wall- thwee was a child riding a bike around the inside (as they are apt to do...)and I kept saying that they should stop or they would fall. Low and behold the kid's back wheels fell off the edge and she was just balanced there (not falling) so I had to go and get help- though I dont know how zi got out or why I didnt just get her up. I pressed stop so the elevator wouldnt jolt and make her fall then climbed a ladder to reach the intercom- which didnt work. Then randomly, the elevator doors open and out every one comes.
I dont usually remember my dreams- just the completely weird ones.

You could make up some nutty analogies for that dream I reckons.
